Who is eligible to become an apprentice?

How long does an apprenticeship last?

Under Johnson County, apprenticeships will last 1 year. During this time, the apprentice will be receiving a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction at a local college.

It is an 8-week academy through the EMSLRC EMT Academy on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 - 4:30 PM.  Along with attending the academy, you are considered a full-time employee at Johnson County, which means you are expected to attend your scheduled shifts to meet the 40 hour/week (this does not include the 2 days of academy).

Why should I apply?
  • As soon as apprentices start in their preferred industry, they will begin earning a wage while gaining practical experience.
  • Wages and benefits (Health, dental, etc.) will be included as a full-time employee of the county. 
  • Their education and training are relevant and applicable to their work.
  • Upon completing the program, apprentices receive a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship.

 

Funding:

The Johnson County program provides all of its services at no cost. Under the State of Iowa, the program works to make the process of registering as simple as it can be.
