Empty plastic containersPlastic waste is found in the depths of the oceans, on the world’s highest peaks and everywhere in between.

Johnson County residents are invited to attend an online panel discussion on “Plastic Waste: Impacts and Ideas” that will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021.

Area waste and sustainability experts will discuss environmental impacts, how and where plastics are processed, and what residents can do to have a positive impact at the local level. A question-and-answer session will follow the panelists’ presentations, and attendee questions will be welcomed. Pre-registration is required at tiny.cc/plasticJC

Event presenters are Jane Wilch, recycling coordinator for the City of Iowa, and Blake Rupe and Beth MacKenzie. Rupe and MacKenzie are sustainability program managers for the University of Iowa Office of Sustainability and the Environment.

This event is hosted by Johnson County government’s Green Team, an internal staff committee. Automated English-language captioning will be used for this online event.
