Cpl. Carl Sweeting

Carl was born November 27, 1927 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. The family lived in Tiffin, Iowa but moved to Iowa City at an early age. Carl was one of 11 children. He graduated from Iowa City High in 1946. He enlisted in the service January 18, 1946 and discharged Honorably July 31, 1947 as a Corporal. He was part of the Army Air Corps which later became the Air Force. Carl was a Private in the 106th AAF Base Unit. He served in Guam and several other Pacific bases as a member of the 20th Air Corps.
He married Maxine Koob October 2, 1948. They had five children together. Tonya (Air Force Veteran), Allan (Army Veteran), Chris, Noble (Navy Veteran), and Scott (Air Force Veteran.) He worked and was part owner of Sweeting Florist for several years and retired from the Iowa City Post Office. He was an avid bowler and member of several leagues for more than 50 years. He also enjoyed playing cards.
