SP5 Chris Lantz
Spec 5 Chris Lantz served in the U.S. Army from 12/8/1971 to 11/29/1974. Basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, German Language School at Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, CA, and interrogation school, Ft. Huachuca, AZ. His service was in the 511th Military Intelligence Battalion, Nuremberg, Germany providing liaison with the German military, customs officials and the Bavarian Border Police along the West German/East German border in Bad Neustadt, Germany until his Honorable discharge.
Chris is grateful for the opportunities his service provided. He used the GI Bill and a National Health Service Corps scholarship to fund medical school at the University of Iowa. He served in the Army Reserve unit in Cedar Rapids while finishing his family practice residency. Chris became a commissioned officer in the Indian Health Service assigned for 3 years on the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Lame Deer, Montana before transitioning to become a civil servant in Lame Deer 7 more years. He returned to Iowa City to serve in the emergency unit at Mercy Hospital for 18 years. Chris acknowledges the overwhelming support of his wife, Lois, and daughter, Megan during his professional career.
