Jim was a native of Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He played football for Drake University graduating in 1942. Captain Jim Dickerson served with the 3d Marine Division in the 3d Joint Assault Company (JASCO) as an Air/Ground Liaison Officer. He directed tactical air support on the invasions of Guam, Moratai, Iwo Jima, and Leyte.

After the war he worked for his father at Dickerson Ford in Ft. Dodge until moving to Iowa City and opening Dickerson-Ellis Chrysler Dealership in 1954. The business became Jim Dickerson Motors on Market Street and was sold in 1965.

The family lived on Koser Avenue in University Heights. Sons Jim and Mike attended City High and son David and daughter Peggy attended West High.

Honors Earned: Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and WWII Victory Medal
