Damaris Mirea is a first generation American born to immigrant parents from Romania. From a young age, she noticed her brother’s attraction to the military and his ambition to serve. Following her brother’s example and with an aspiration of her own, she enlisted into the Army’s Active Duty. Mirea did her Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and trained for her Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, as a 68W/Combat Medic/Health Care Specialist. While stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, she served with two different units: 6th Squadron 9th U.S. Cavalry (6-9 Cav) and 215th Brigade Support Battalion (215th BSB). Mirea also worked at the Monroe Clinic to provide medical attention to the soldiers on base. She also carried out two separate rotations at the National Training Center (NTC) in Fort Irwin, California.

As much as she wanted to deploy overseas, she joked that her four years of service in garrison kept her on edge with all the training she did. Specialist Promotable (SPC-P) Mirea was honorably discharged from the service. A few months after separation and with motivation for personal growth, she utilized her GI-Bill benefit to pursue higher education.
