Dave Crowley was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Regis High School and attended the University of Iowa. Dave joined the US Army Reserves in September 1986 and graduated from Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training in Fort Benning, Georgia. He was assigned as an infantryman to the 1/410th Infantry Regiment, 205th Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division and was eventually promoted to Staff Sergeant.

In 1993, Dave transferred to the Iowa Army National Guard and spent the next 17 years as part of the 1/133 Infantry (Ironman) Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 34th Infantry Division Red Bulls, where he eventually attained the rank of First Sergeant. During his time with the Ironman Battalion, Dave was mobilized and deployed four times, including overseas missions to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan and spent more than four years overseas in support of the War on Terror. In 2011, Dave transferred to Joint Forces Headquarters, Iowa National Guard and served as an Operations Non-Commissioned Officer, eventually retiring in 2015 as a Master Sergeant.

Dave is a graduate of Light Fighters Course; Arctic Light Unit Training Course, all Non-Commissioned Officers Education Schools up to, and including the US Army Sergeants Major Academy. He has been certified as Combat Lifesaver.

Dave retired in 2015 from the National Guard and has multiple awards and decorations, including the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation, and Army Achievement Medal.

Dave is married to Linda and has two children.
