Don attended Avionics Schools in 1964. He was then deployed to a new Marine Air Base-- Chu Lai from 1965-1966 to be closer to the enemy (South of Da Nang). His unit was heavily outnumbered by enemy the entire tour. Their planes were A-4 Skyhawks. He spent his final year at Camp Pendleton, CA training Huey Helicopter Squadrons headed for Vietnam.
Medals earned: Presidential Unit Commendation. Marine Unit Commendation. 8 various other medals.
