Donovan Quist entered in to the United States Army June 5, 1942 at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. He completed training at Camp Rucker, Alabama; Tennessee Maneuvers; Desert Training, Arizona; Camp San Luis Obispo; Camp Beale, California. Donovan served overseas at Hawaii, Palau Islands, New Caledonia, and Leyte, Japan from July 3, 1944 until November 26, 1945. He was involved with military engagements at Palau Islands and the Philippine Islands. He was wounded on Angaur, September 20, 1944. Donovan discharged March 11, 1946 as a Staff Sergeant.
Donovan was married to Marjorie (Tillman) Quist. They had two sons Randall Quist of rural Red Oak Iowa, and Douglas Quist of North Liberty Iowa. Both of the sons were Vietnam era Veterans.
Medals earned: Purple Heart, Good Conduct, Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
