Edward was born in June of 1916 in rural Johnson County. He was drafted into the Army and started active duty in November of 1942. Ed was basically a truck driver. He was in the 490th Armored Field Artillery and various engineer units at Camp Polk, Louisiana, Camp Barkeley Texas, Camp Cooke California, and Fort Jackson South Carolina. Ed departed New York in January of 1945 with the 1471st Engineer Maintenance Company headed for Le Harve, France. Ed served with the 325th Engineers, 100th Infantry Division, which means he was a truck driver in a Combat Engineer Company. Ed arrived back in the United States in January of 1946 and was discharged eleven days later.

Honors Earned: American Campaign Medal, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with 2 battle stars, WWII Victory Medal

Edward J. Barnes passed to his reward in July of 1995.
