I graduated from Iowa City High School in 1962. I then joined the United States Air Force April 19, 1963. After five weeks of Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, I attended Technical School at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi to become a Morse Intercept Operator. My first duty assignment was to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines from January 1964 to July 1965. My next and final duty station was at Adair Air Force Station in Corvallis, Oregon where I was assigned to Headquarters 26 Air Division from August 1965 to April 1967.
I discharged honorably as a Sergeant. Honors earned: Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
