George Marple

82nd Airborne
George Marple was born December 14, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa. He joined the 82nd Airborne in 1963 and served in the Quartermaster Corps. He was sent to jump school in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and then to Fort Lee, Virginia for training as a Rigger. He was certified in Parachute, Packing, Maintenance, Rigging and Air Delivery of supplies and vehicles.
In 1965 he was deployed to the Dominican Republic as part of Operation Power Pack during the Civil War in that country. He served with the 82nd Airborne until his Honorable discharge in 1966.
He was awarded Sterling Silver Jump Wings and the National Defense Service Medal.
In 1969 George married Karen Enderle and they lived in Iowa City until his death on May 13, 2019.
