Gerry Maxwell

Vietnam 1967-68
Gerry Maxwell enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966. He completed basic training at Fort Hood, Texas and afterward medical training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. In October, 1967, Gerry was sent to Vietnam aboard a WW 2 troop ship, arriving 21 days later. Gerry was with the Americal Division, 198th Light Infantry Brigade. He spent the next year in Vietnam as a Combat Medic with the First 52nd Infantry Battalion near Chu Lai and later near Saigon. The Tet Offensive occurred during his time in country.
Gerry returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1968 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and later at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in September, 1969.
Gerry received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Combat Medical Badge, 2 0/S Bars, Marksman (M-16) Medal, and Sharpshooter (M-14 Rifle) Medal.
