James Hadenfeldt
EM3 U.S. Navy
1961-1967
Joined the Navy Reserve during junior year of high school in June 1961. Left for active duty May 1963, three days after graduation. When I got to Des Moines, Iowa I decided to enlist for four years active duty instead of two. I was put in charge of 36 new recruits who were heading for San Diego by train for boot camp and I was going to training school. In December 1963 I received orders to go to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. There I was assigned to the USS Tawakoni ATF114, a fleet going tug. I spent the next 3 1/2 years aboard her. I visited Midway Island, Wake Island, Guam, Philippines (3), Vietnam (2), Hong Kong, Japan, Adak (2), Washington St., Mexico, Panama, and Long Beach, CA. I departed the ship on May 1967 at Da Nang, Vietnam for discharge.
Medals earned: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal
