After his Navy discharge he studied at Marycrest College in Davenport Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree in nursing. Then he joined the Army Nurse Corp and worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After this discharge he worked at the VAMC in Iowa City. He retired from the VAMC after 35 years of service. He loved caring for his Veterans.
