Louis was born on May 2, 1896 in Johnson County, Iowa to John Douglass and Mary Ellen Rogers.  

He was working as a teamster when on April 7, 1917, at the age of 20, he enlisted in Co “A” Iowa Engineers to serve his country during World War I.  On Sept 28, 1917 he became part of the 109th Engineers of Iowa.  He served in England and France from September 17, 1918 until July 13, 1919 when his services were no longer required.  He received an honorable discharge and the military gave him travel pay to return to Iowa and $60 for his service. 

On November 9, 1921 Louis married Eva Sleichter in Iowa City.  They had four daughters and Louis was employed as a projectionist at the Englert Theater for 40 years.  In 1965 when he retired,  Louis moved to California to live with one of his daughters.  He died on July 23, 1976 in Rialto, California and was returned to Iowa City to be buried by his wife in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
