Iowa City resident Ralph Neuzil was not only a Veteran and community leader, he was an outstanding citizen-soldier, husband and father. Ralph was a fourth-generation resident of Johnson County who joined the United States Army ROTC at the University of Iowa in 1948, and served in the Korean War as a teacher, instructor and investigator. He retired as a U.S. Army Captain of the 410th Infantry Regiment of the Army Reserve with honorable discharge in 1965. He also served as Master of Ceremonies for the Johnson County Military Affairs Association’s activities for the annual Iowa City Area Memorial Day Services for over 30 years.

Ralph was a well-known attorney and practiced law for over 50 years. He was also elected as the youngest County Attorney in Johnson County history in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Before passing away in 2011 at the age of 80, Ralph was married to Arlene Neuzil for nearly 60 years; their children include Wayne, Nancy, Susie, Gary, John and Terrence.

The bench located at the Johnson County Armory & Veterans Memorial was dedicated on behalf of Ralph. The Memorial sign to the west of the Memorial is in memory of Ralph's wife Arlene.
