Robert was born December 29, 1945 in Rockford, Illinois. He served in the Air Force from July 1, 1965 to December 20, 1968 as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. After his tour in Vietnam, Robert finished his enlistment at Peterson Air Field in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was discharged Honorably at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He met and married Janet Haberman and they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Robert was a truck driver and drove a school bus for 17 years before his retirement. They settled down in Iowa City in 1971 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019.
