Bob White was born October 31, 1917 in Iowa City, Iowa. He joined G Co. 136th Medical Regiment, Iowa National Guard in the spring of 1939. When the National Guard was federalized on February 10, 1941, he was sent to Camp Claiborne, Louisiana and then on to El Paso, Texas for advanced medical training. When Pearl Harbor was bombed he was given a short leave and then reported to Fort Dix, New Jersey. The 136th medical Regiment was reorganized into the 109th Medical Battalion and Bob was assigned to the 2nd platoon of D company. February 19, 1942. He left for Europe aboard the USS Fuller arriving March 22 in Ireland. During the war, he served in North Africa and Italy. He was able to come home December of 1944 on leave and married Luthiera Yeggy of Riverside, Iowa December 30, 1944. On February 18, 1945, he returned to his unit in Italy and served until August 1945.

For his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, European - African - Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Arrowhead, 1 Silver Battle Star, 2 Bronze Battle Stars (Amphibious Invasion -"Operation Torch"and battles at Algeria - Tunisia -Naples Foggia, Anzio, Rome Arno, Northern Apennines and Po Valley), American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, 7 Overseas Service Bars and 2 Service Stripes.

After the war, Bob worked at the Iowa City Post Office until he retired. Bob died February 23, 1981.
