Lieutenant Commander Scott Alms was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1988 as an Aviation Ordnanceman. He is a plankowner of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and during his first tour, deployed in support of Desert Storm and advanced from E-1 to E-5.

1992 - LCDR Alms reported to Barbers Point, HI. During his tour, he advanced to E-6 and earned his Associates of Science and Management from Hawaii Pacific University.

1996 - Selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He earned his commission from Illinois Institute of Technology NROTC and a Bachelors of Science in Information and Decision Sciences from University of Illinois Chicago.

1999 - LCDR Alms reported for flight training in Pensacola, FL and earned his Wings of Gold as a Naval Flight Officer at Randolph Air Force Base, TX in December 2000, and completed P-3C training at Patrol Squadron THIRTY, NAS Jacksonville, FL.

2001 - LCDR Alms was assigned to VP-4 Skinny Dragons, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe. Immediately after arriving to VP-4 October 2001, he was deployed to the middle east in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his tour, he qualified as Tactical Coordinator, Mission Commander, was promoted to Lieutenant and earned the Air Medal for combat operations overland Afghanistan.

2004 - LCDR Alms reported to 201 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Personnel Exchange Program as a Navigator on the MR2 Nimrod in Kinloss Scotland. During his tour with the RAF, he earned his second Air Medal for Combat Operations overland Iraq and Afghanistan in support of OEF and OIF.

2007 - Selected as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer (SHOOTER) on board USS George Washington (CVN-73) in Norfolk VA, then forward deployed to Yokosuka Japan.

2010 - United States Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa FL Coalition Coordination Center. He was the Commander's Update Briefer and represented the countries of Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan.

2011 - U.S. Embassy Manila Philippines, Navy Operations Chief. Represented the Chief of the Joint United States Military Assistance Group (JUSMAG) and was the liaison between the U.S. Navy and the Philippine Navy as well as representing the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines. While in the Philippines, he met the love of his life and now wife May Anne Bonghanoy.

2013 - Navy Recruiting District Minneapolis, General Officer Recruiter, Coralville, Iowa.

Retired. 1 December 2014 with 26 years of honorable service.
