Sergeant First Class Ted J. McLaughlin grew up in Iowa City.  He played half back for City High and was the 1938 co-captain. In 1941, after graduation, his unit, PSGT Co. B (Clr) 109th Medical Battalion, Iowa Army Reserve National Guard was mobilized. Ted was sent to train in Louisiana and then New Jersey before being sent to the British Isles. Ted arrived in North Africa only hours after the start of the invasion. Ted served in campaigns in Tunisian, Sicily and Italy.  His service took him to the countries of Ireland, and Scotland.   

Ted’s awards include, four Bronze stars for campaigns in Tunisia, Algeria, French-Morocco, Sicily, Naples Foggia, and the Army Good Conduct Medal.

After serving in the Army, Ted returned to Iowa City where he was a successful business man.
