Victor J. "Vic" Hesseltine Sr. was born in Crawfordsville, IA and lived near there until he left to attend the University of Iowa where he received a BA in 1940 and a MS in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign on board the U.S.S. Fayette, and was on active duty from July 1944 through August 1945. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal for his service. Following his release from active duty, he remained as a member of the Navy Reserve until March 1952. After release from the Navy, he purchased a small farm near Wayland, IA and served as Postmaster for about 20 years.
