William W. “Bill” Vorheis was born December 2nd1923 in Iowa City, the son of Levi and Hazel (Pomeroy) Vorheis. He attended Iowa City Schools graduating from City High School in 1941. Bill joined the Navy and fought for his country in WWII. Returned to Iowa City, he married Elaine Swails on February 16th 1946. He owned and operated Vorheis Refrigeration for over 40 years.

Bill had a love of golf and collecting golf balls. He found relaxation in searching for lost golf balls. Bill scored 12 hole in ones during his golfing days, one of them at the age of 87.
