What to bring to your appointment

- Identification (ID) - An ID is required from WIC participants and parents. This can include:
- Proof of Address - You will need to show proof that you live in Iowa. There is no minimum amount of time you must live in Iowa and US citizenship is NOT required. This can include:
- Driver’s license
- Current utility bill
- Rent/mortgage receipt
- Public assistance notice
- Voter registration card
- Vehicle registration
- Proof of Income – Income guidelines are based on household size and gross income (before taxes). This can include:
- Paycheck stubs
- Employer statement
What can I expect at my WIC appointment?
- Visit with a WIC clerk who will review your proofs of identification, address, and income.
- See a nurse or dietitian who will:
- Obtain weight and height
- Screen for hemoglobin and lead
- Conduct a health and nutrition assessment
- Provide health/nutrition education answering questions like:
- What to eat during pregnancy or while body/breastfeeding?
- When to start infant feeding?
- How to help feed a picky child?
- How can my family eat more fruits and vegetables?
- Issue your food benefits
- Child Health clerk can connect you with other resources you may need including:
- A doctor, dentist, other food assistance, health insurance, and car seats,
- Our other programs such as Oral Health, Maternal Health, Immunizations, and Reproductive Health
- At some visits, your child can visit with a dental hygienist
How often will I have WIC appointments?
Families have WIC appointments every 3 months, including 2 in-person appointments which are 6 months apart and 2 short Nutrition Education phone calls every 3 months in between. You may also be eligible to complete your Nutrition Education on your own time at wichealth.org instead of over the phone, for more information ask us during your WIC appointment.
