The library has a large collection of more than 260,000 items available for checkout. The collection includes all-ages books, spoken word and music audio recordings, DVDs, downloadable material, as well as smaller specialized collections. All items may be checked out free of charge and each card holder may have twelve free reserves at a time. Questions may be asked in person, by phone, or through the library's web site. A variety of free adult and children's programs and classes are offered, check the library calendar (https://www.icpl.org/calendar) or call for dates and times. Special services include, but are not limited to the following:

• At Home services are designed for patrons who are unable to come to the library because of a permanent or temporary physically disabling condition, and for those who live in nursing homes, care centers, or retirement residences. At Home service is available to residents of Iowa City and areas covered by contracts for library service: rural Johnson County and the cities of Hills and University Heights. • The library provides free Internet access at 40 public workstations on the Second Floor of the library.
• A wide array of audiovisual equipment is available for checkout to residents of Iowa City and areas covered by contracts for service (Hills, University Heights, and rural Johnson County).
• The library loans artwork for persons to use in their homes.

We provide free short-term parking on Linn Street in front of the Library in addition to the metered parking spaces throughout the area. More parking is available in downtown parking ramps, many of which offer the first hour free. Other services include: Community Outreach, eBook/eAudio downloads, streaming video, free Meeting Rooms and Public Displays.
