The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the leading grassroots, self help, education, support, and advocacy organization dedicated to improving lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.  NAMI Johnson County (NAMIJC), the local affiliate of NAMI Iowa and NAMI National, was established in 1985 and serves the communities of Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, and all of Johnson County and the surrounding rural areas.  NAMIJC’s initiatives include support groups, educational events, and R Place Peer Recovery Center (R Place), which provides direct in-person and virtual peer support for individuals and families living with a mental illness.  R Place is centrally located and employs Peer Support Specialists, professionals with lived mental health experience who are trained to work with others struggling with mental illness.
