Auditor

Johnson County will elect members of the Board of Supervisors by district beginning in 2026, following changes made in Senate File 75, which was passed in 2025.

Under Senate File 75, Johnson County will no longer elect supervisors at large. Instead, voters will elect one supervisor from each of five districts. All five supervisor seats will be on the ballot for the 2026 primary and general elections.

Per Iowa Code 39.26, candidates must live in the district they seek to represent by the Primary Election Day, June 2, 2026. Voters will only vote for the supervisor candidate running in their own district.

To return to staggered four-year terms in 2028, term lengths were determined by a random drawing conducted by the Johnson County Auditor on Jan. 14, 2026. Those initial term limits are as follows:

  • District 1 = 4 years
  • District 2 = 2 years
  • District 3 = 2 years
  • District 4 = 2 years
  • District 5 = 4 years

The Auditor’s Office will send a notice to all registered voters in Johnson County before the primary election day on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. This notice will include the new supervisor districts.

The Iowa Legislative Services Agency prepared the district map. The map was approved by the Temporary County Redistricting Committee on Dec. 15, 2025, and the Board of Supervisors on Dec. 23, 2025. The Iowa Secretary of State granted final approval on Jan. 7, 2026.
