MAN ARRESTED FOR SERIOUS INJURY BY VEHICLE FOR NOVEMBER 2024 INCIDENT

Monday, March 10, 2025 (JOHNSON COUNTY, IA) – Ta’Gian Hughes, 25, of North Liberty, was arrested on charges of Serious Injury by Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Injury, and Operating Under the Influence – 2nd Offense.

On November 15, 2024, a 21-year old man from Urbandale, Iowa sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a Jeep driven by Hughes while crossing W Penn Street in North Liberty. Hughes left the scene of the crash, but was found later. The victim sustained head injuries and spent an extended period of time in the ICU and is still recovering.

Hughes admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking before driving, and using MDMA and alprazolam earlier in the week. He provided a breath sample that showed a .026 blood alcohol content. A sample of his urine tested positive for THC, MDMA, and alprazolam.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
