Medical Examiner

The Johnson County Medical Examiner (JCME) Department has re-attained annual accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME).

There are currently 117 medicolegal death investigation systems in the United States that are accredited by NAME. JCME is one of only two accredited systems in Iowa, along with the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.

NAME-accredited offices represent the highest quality of death investigation systems. The standards establish minimum requirements for an adequate medicolegal death investigation system, with an emphasis on office policies and procedures rather than the work of individual practitioners. The overall objective of accreditation is to ensure that the application of the standards set forth by NAME will aid in developing and maintaining a high caliber medicolegal death investigation system for the communities in the jurisdiction in which they operate.

JCME has been accredited by NAME since 2019.
