In July and August 2026, at the request of the County Engineer, updated traffic counts were collected for a portion of Sandy Beach Rd NE between its intersections with Curtis Bridge Rd NE and Lake Manor Rd NE in northern Johnson County. The updated traffic counts were collected, analyzed, and provided to the County by the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County (MPOJC). The new counts reflect increased traffic volumes over the 2022 Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) counts.
On October 8, 2026, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 10-08-26-01, which directs County staff to utilize these updated traffic counts for Sandy Beach Rd NE between Curtis Bridge Rd NE and Lake Manor Rd NE in place of the IDOT (2022) counts for said road segment when determining conformance with adopted policies and standards, including Road Performance Standards as set forth in the Johnson County Unified Development Ordinance.
Resolution 10-08-26-01 also stipulates that for those development applications accepted by the Zoning Administrator as complete prior to adoption of the resolution, the IDOT (2022) counts for said road segment shall be used when determining conformance with policies and standards adopted by Johnson County, including but not limited to the Road Performance Standards.
Any questions can be directed to the Johnson County Planning, Development and Sustainability Department.
