The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Dawn Alam as the next Transportation and Fleet Director. Alam replaces Tom Brase, who is retiring after serving as Director for 24 years.

The Transportation and Fleet Director oversees fleet operations and ensures safe and efficient public paratransit service by managing the SEATS Department. The Director manages the fleet and SEATS staff and supervises operational and systems administration.

“Johnson County is very fortunate to have a person of Dawn’s caliber taking over as Transportation and Fleet Director,” said Rod Sullivan, Chairperson of the Board of Supervisors. “Not only does Dawn already understand all the ins and outs of Johnson County SEATS; she is well-respected by everyone who comes in contact with the service. The Board is excited to welcome Dawn into her new role.”

Alam previously served as the Transportation and Fleet Supervisor for Johnson County and has 15 years of experience in the public transit industry including operations, project development/management, finance, grants and technology.

Alam was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Chittagong, Bangladesh, where she was a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) volunteer and taught secondary school English.

Alam earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and fine arts from Luther College.
