JCSO INVESTIGATING LAKE MACBRIDE FATALITY
UPDATE - JOHNSON COUNTY, IA, Feb. 10, 2025 – The victim has been identified as Jack Peacock, 85, of Cedar Rapids. The case remains under investigation.
JOHNSON COUNTY, IA, Feb. 8, 2025 - On February 8, 2025, at 8:50 a.m., the Joint Emergency Communications Center received a call from a passerby on the walking trail near the main boat ramp at Lake MacBride State Park. The caller reported seeing a pair of gloves on the ice, as well as broken ice, and was concerned someone had fallen through. Emergency personnel responded to the area and were able to observe a body in the lake. Members of the Solon Fire Department donned ice rescue suits and were able to remove the individual from the water. The individual was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital, but did not survive. It is unknown how long the subject was under water.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident. Assistance was provided by the Solon Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Johnson County Metro Dive Team, Johnson County Emergency Management, Johnson County Ambulance, UI Med 1 EMS Physicians, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner.
