FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAN ARRESTED FOR INTERFERENCE WITH OFFICIAL ACTS DURING TRAFFIC STOP
JOHNSON COUNTY, IA, March 28, 2025 – On March 27, 2025, at 2:09 p.m., a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a blue Chevrolet pickup truck for speeding near Gingerich Road SW and Hwy 1. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua Allan Fratzke, 40, of Iowa City, refused to identify himself upon initial contact and repeatedly demanded to see the radar reading in the deputy’s patrol vehicle before he would comply with the request to identify. The deputy then attempted to take Fratzke into custody and he became uncooperative.
A retired peace officer who was passing the scene stopped to assist the deputy. They were able to successfully restrain Fratzke until more deputies arrived at which point Fratzke was placed into handcuffs and taken into custody. Fratzke was transported to the Johnson County Jail and charged with Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. This morning, at his initial appearance, Fratzke pled guilty and was fined $250.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the retired peace officer for their assistance and helping to safely resolve this incident.
