Bicycle commuters and recreational riders are invited to enjoy a free, locally made fresh breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at the patio just south of the Johnson County Administration Building located at 913 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City.
The breakfast will feature empanadas, coffee, juice and fruit. Free trails map, bike tip sheets and bike pins will also be available.
The rain location for the breakfast is the lower level of the nearby Health and Human Services (HHS) Building parking ramp at 855 S. Dubuque Street. The Administration and HHS buildings, along with the Ambulance Service and Medical Examiner Facility, make up the County’s downtown campus, which is recognized as a Gold Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists.
The event is one of many Bike Month activities being held in the area in May. The County Board of Supervisors will also issue a Bike Month proclamation at its formal meeting on May 11. The Iowa City Bike Library is scheduled to receive the proclamation.
In addition, County employees will be encouraged to take the bus, bicycle, walk or carpool for commuting and non-commuting travel during the annual two-week-long One Less Car Challenge.
