The City of Iowa City will have a City Council Primary Election for District A candidates on Oct. 10, 2023. Iowa City requires a primary if three or more candidates file for a district seat or if five or more candidates file for the two At-Large seats.

Only voters who live in District A are eligible to vote in the Iowa City City Council Primary Election. District A includes the following precincts: IC02, IC07, IC08, IC09, IC10, IC12, IC13, IC26, and IC27. The top two candidates from District A will advance to the November 7 City and School Election. 

Candidates who will appear in the October 10 Iowa City City Council Primary Election are as follows: Laura Bergus, Tim Borchardt, and Pauline Taylor.

The Iowa City At Large City Council and City Council District C contests will not be on the primary ballot as those candidates have already qualified for the November 7 City and School Election. Additionally, University Heights will not require a primary election.

The filing deadline for school districts and for cities other than Iowa City and University Heights is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21. The candidates list will be updated as candidates file.
