Johnson County SEATS welcomes a new electric bus thanks to Johnson County’s investment of funds received from the federal government through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
This 158” wheelbase fully electric bus will provide transportation for Johnson County residents who find it difficult to conduct daily public transportation transactions in an environmentally conscious way.
The electric bus is one of the first fully electric paratransit buses being operated in Iowa. The bus includes seating for eight passengers, including two spaces for passengers who use wheelchairs. It has a range of 150 miles and can fully charge in about two hours.
According to Dawn Alam, Johnson County’s Transportation and Fleet Director, public transit is always seeking to be more sustainable and efficient. “We are excited to be an industry leader in adding this vehicle to our fleet,” said Alam. The purchase reinforces Johnson County’s commitment to sustainability and reducing barriers to transportation in our community.
