In honor of Memorial Day, Johnson County Veteran Services is offering a special for a Veterans Memorial engraving. During May and June, anyone who purchases an engraving will receive an additional engraving at no cost.
The Johnson County Armory and Veterans Memorial offers community members the opportunity to honor their loved ones who served in the United States Armed Forces with a permanent engraved tribute.
Since its dedication on Veterans Day in 2013, the Armory and Veterans Memorial has become a permanent and deeply meaningful site of remembrance. Located outside the Johnson County Administration Building at 913 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City, the memorial is open to the public and recognizes more than 1,000 veterans through engraved inscriptions on black granite panels that form the centerpiece of the site.
Engraved inscriptions are available for $200 and are not limited to Johnson County residents.
Veterans from any location and branch of service are eligible to be recognized, as well as those still serving today.
Order forms, memorial history, veteran biographies, and additional details about the recognition process can be found at www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/memorial.
