The Johnson County Board of Supervisors announces six vacancies on the Johnson County Compensation Commission for one-year terms beginning upon appointment and expiring Dec. 31, 2022.
Duties include assessment of damage to all property taken by an acquiring agency and located in the county. No member of the Compensation Commission selected shall possess any interest in the proceeding which would cause such person to render a biased decision.
Vacancies include: Owner of city/town property (one vacancy);
Owner-operators of agricultural property (three vacancies);
Licensed real estate salespersons or brokers (two vacancies);
The Compensation Commission does not have a regular meeting time. The Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District selects six members from the Commission to serve during condemnation proceedings in Johnson County. Commissioners are compensated $200 per hearing for which they are chosen to serve. If the hearing is settled or cancelled prior to proceedings, compensation will not be provided. Hearings begin at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, 511 S. Capitol St., Iowa City.
