Johnson County SEATS and paratransit users will no longer be required to wear a mask on public transit vehicles or at transit stops beginning today, Tuesday, April 19, 2022. The decision was based on the United States Federal Court ruling on Monday, April 18, 2022, that struck down the mask mandate for individuals using public transportation, as well as subsequent guidance from the Transportation Security Administration.

Masks are still an effective means to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While not required, Johnson County Public Health (JCPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend the use of masks while using indoor public transportation, particularly if you feel ill or believe you could be infected with COVID-19.

The SEATS department provides rides to senior citizens, people with disabilities, and others who may otherwise find it difficult to conduct daily transactions. More information about SEATS and paratransit is available at www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov/seats.
