A public meeting to begin the process of creating a village plan and setting a village boundary for Windham will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Renee’s Roadhouse, 1747 Black Diamond Road SW. Area residents, property owners and any interested persons are welcome to attend the meeting to learn about the process, share ideas and ask questions. Light refreshments will be provided, and the kitchen will be open for additional food purchases. (Alcoholic beverages will not be available for sale during this special meeting.)
Village plans and boundaries are in place for the other eight villages in the county. For each unincorporated community, these plans set a vision and address quality of life and other topics. The plans also work in tandem with other Johnson County planning guidance, balance preservation and growth opportunities, and play a role in decision-making by the Board of Supervisors and the Planning and Zoning Commission. The process to create the plan, and the plan itself, does not raise taxes and does not require anyone to change how they use their property or its zoning designation.
At the direction of Board of Supervisors, the Johnson County Planning, Development and Sustainability (PDS) Department is coordinating the planning effort. Letters announcing the first meeting were sent to property owners and residents within approximately three-quarters of a mile from Windham’s original plat.
There will be numerous opportunities for public input, including a second meeting in Windham, a review of the draft plan, Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, and public hearings held by the Board of Supervisors.
