Johnson County Public Health’s is excited to share that health insurance plans are committed to ensuring access to vaccines through 2026.
AHIP, America’s Health Insurance Plans, the national trade association for the health insurance industry, announced they plan to cover all immunizations that were recommended by the ACIP as of September 1, 2025, which includes the updated formulations for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines slated for this fall, with no cost-sharing for patients through end of 2026.
“This is amazing news for so many parents, employers, and really everyone. With all the changes and speculation on what the ACIP may or may not recommend in the future, the public can have a little more confidence that they will still have access to life saving vaccines that they had access to before,” said Karrey Shannon, Community Health Nurse.
Johnson County Public Health offers vaccines through both the Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA) programs for those who are eligible. Both programs are funded through state and federal funds.
“These programs are absolutely crucial to preventing the transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. In just the last year, we have seen several outbreaks of pertussis and even measles. Maintaining high vaccination rates is one of the most effective ways to protect our community’s health and prevent these outbreaks from spreading further,” said Rachel Quinn, Disease Prevention Specialist.
