Program Overview

The Right-of-Way (ROW) Soil Sampling program was established in 2024 to assess soil health in the right-of-way along county (i.e. public) roads. While the ROW sampling program is not open to the public for participation, summary findings will be shared publicly on this website.

The Johnson County Planning, Development and Sustainability Department will conduct soil sampling in Johnson County rights-of-way to better understand the effects of different land use and management practices on soil health.  The Secondary Roads Department follows an Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management program (more info here).

Sampling Strategy

The ROW Soil Sampling collects paired samples intended to look at the long-term effects of different land use practices on soil health.
