Johnson County appoints Dawn Alam as new Transportation and Fleet Director
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Dawn Alam as the next Transportation and Fleet Director. Alam replaces Tom Brase, who is retiring after serving as Director for 24 years.
The Transportation and Fleet Director oversees fleet operations and ensures safe and efficient public paratransit service by managing the SEATS Department. The Director manages the fleet and SEATS staff and supervises operational and systems administration.

Penn Street NW (F28) will be closed starting the week of April 15, 2024
Weather permitting, closure on West Penn Street is expected to begin the week of April 15. Penn Street will be closed to all traffic during phase two of West Penn Street just east of the James Avenue intersection to Herky Drive. Travelers should use the posted detour route. Phase one of the Penn Street/James intersection is slated to begin in late summer 2024. This is a joint project between the City of North Liberty and Johnson County.

Johnson County to accept grant applications from area nonprofits to support permanent housing programs
The Johnson County Social Services Department is accepting grant applications from nonprofit agencies that can provide programming to increase access to permanent, supportive housing for area households with children. Experiencing homelessness, housing instability and poverty have been linked to causing adverse effects on young children’s health, development, and future school performance, as well as risks of permanent effects on the development of the brain leading to high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Johnson County Historic Preservation Commission vacancy
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors announces one vacancy on the Historic Preservation Commission. The vacancy term begins upon appointment and expires Dec. 31, 2026.
Members shall be residents of Johnson County and demonstrate a positive interest in historic preservation, possessing interest or expertise in architecture history, historic preservation, planning, building rehabilitation, conservation in general or real estate. Residents residing outside of Iowa City are especially encouraged to apply.
