Johnson County Social Services Department added a Mobility Coordinator to their team to organize transportation services throughout the county and improve overall mobility for elderly, low-income persons and person with disabilities. The mobility coordinator seeks to educate and enhance transportation options in our community by serving as a single point of contact for transportation referrals, education and community outreach. The Mobility Coordinator is tasked with increasing awareness of public transit to increase ridership, ultimately leading to a more independent lifestyle.
Needed supports and services for individuals with qualifying disabilities are funded in an effort to provide quality of life in the least restrictive environment. Those who qualify for funding and service coordination or case management may have a social worker assigned to help assess what supports and services are necessary.

The Aging Specialist provides older adults and caregivers a coordinated point of entry where they receive information and assistance, assessment of needs, referral, assistance in completing applications and follow up to ensure that referrals and services are accessed.

Client Resource Center The computer resource center is available open until 4:15 p.m. during normal business days. Staff will direct you to computer software, publications and Internet sites that can help you research careers, schools, communities and obtain information regarding current workforce trends.

Those most common for older adults: Elderly Waiver provides services for in home care/nursing level care and for skilled nursing care.
When individuals experience a significant loss of vision and find it difficult to continue their active, independent life styles, they can turn to the Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) for solutions. The IDB is the state agency that provides services to keep individuals who are blind or visually impaired living independently and working competitively. The Independent Living program operated by IDB primarily serves individuals 55 and older.
