Breast/Chestfeeding & Pumping Education
Our nurses and dietitians are ready to talk to you one-on-one about your body/breastfeeding goals during your WIC visit, even if you aren’t sure its right for you.
We are ready to talk to you about things like getting a good latch, mastitis, pumping.
Breast Pumps
We can help you arrange to receive a free breast pump from your Medicaid MCO up to six weeks postpartum. If you are not able to receive a pump through Medicaid, we can provide you a pump after your baby is born. For premature babies or multiples, we can also loan out a hospital grade pump. Call us at 319-354-6042 to talk to someone about receiving your free breast pump.
Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (BFPC)
Breastfeeding peer counselors are people enrolled in WIC who have breastfed their babies for six months or longer and have received additional breastfeeding education from WIC staff. The counselors will call other people enrolled in WIC who are pregnant or new to breastfeeding to give them advice, encouragement and support and can connect whenever is most convenient, including nights and weekends. WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors provide a personal touch from the perspective of someone who has been through the difficulties and concerns that WIC breastfeeding parents may experience.
Our peer counselors speak English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.
