Yes. All piercings will have to be taken out and are NOT allowed in jail.
- Where do I mail letters to an inmate?

Letters can be mailed to inmates at the Johnson County Jail. They are to be addressed as follows:

No letters will be accepted that have stickers affixed, lipstick, perfume or any other foreign substance applied to the letter or envelope.
- Can I send a package to an inmate?

No. The jail DOES NOT accept any packages mailed in to inmates.
- Can I send a book or magazine to an inmate directly?

No. Any books or magazines mailed to an inmate must come directly from the publisher.
- Can I bring anything else to the jail that is not cash or a prescription?

No. Other property besides cash and prescription medication WILL NOT be accepted at the jail.
- What do I need to do if I need to bring medication with me to the jail?

You will need verification by a doctor and have the prescription medication in its original bottles or sample bottles.

- What information is the jail staff able to tell me?

The jail staff can give the following information:
- Whether the person is in custody
- What charges they are being held on
- Bond required to be released, if applicable
- Scheduled release date, if applicable
- Can the jail staff give court information?

No. The jail staff CANNOT give out court information. That information can be accessed through the inmate's attorney or on "Iowa Courts Online" at
