UI Health Care Volunteer Services

More than 1,300 volunteers work in more than 125 volunteer positions in areas throughout the hospital. Positions vary within departments and may involve direct patient contact or non-patient contact dependent upon your interests. Deliver a flower, feed a patient, cuddle a baby, and make a friend for life. Volunteers are an important part of the health care team at University of Iowa Health Care! Free parking is available for community volunteers.

UI Community HomeCare, a full-service home medical equipment, oxygen, and infusion services provider, offers you and your family convenience and peace of mind. As an affiliate of University of Iowa Health Care, UI Community HomeCare provides optimal continuity and consistency of care through appropriate prescribed medical therapy or aid at home for as long as necessary. The staff includes highly trained registered nurses, pharmacists, insurance specialists, and clinical support technicians.

TRAIL of Johnson County

The mission of TRAIL of Johnson County -- our name stands for Tools and Resources for Active Independent Living -- is to help older adults remain in their own homes as long as possible, by providing access to needed services and socializing opportunities. For a monthly fee, TRAIL members receive three primary benefits: the services of a volunteer network for simple house chores and errands, transportation, medical advocacy, and other needs; and opportunities to participate in social and educational opportunities with other TRAIL members.

The Bird House - Hospice Home of Johnson County

The Bird House is a 501c3 community nonprofit dedicated to providing compassionate, dignified, end of life care by focusing on the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of our guests and their loved ones in a peaceful home-like environment.

The Bird House is a 5-bed residential boarding home that partners with hospice agencies to provide compassionate end of life care. Hospice residents must be under the care of a hospice agency and desire the 24-hour assistance of our caregivers and volunteers. Hospice residents pay privately per day.

Telecommunications Access Iowa

If you struggle with hearing loss or speech difficulties during phone calls, we may be able to assist you! Telecommunications Access Iowa helps individuals get specialized telecommunications equipment at little to know cost. Qualified individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have difficulty speaking can receive a voucher for approximately 95-99 percent of the average cost of specialized equipment that aids them in communicating over the telephone. Amplified phones, iPads, and accessories are available to purchase through this voucher.
