Johnson County Secondary Roads is starting a new permitting system where the workflow and payments will be online through one link. We will be adding our permits one by one as they get built into the program. This process is not a sprint so please be patient with us in this transition.
Effective February 1, 2016, all Oversized/Overweight, Oversized and Single trip permits will be handled through the Johnson County Secondary Road Department. The permit applications have been updated to model the IDOT’s forms and reflect the new fee schedule that became effective January 1, 2016 per Iowa Code Section 321E.14.
Application fees may be paid using cash, checks or credit card payments. If paying by cash or check, please stop at the payment screen and payment may be either mailed or brought to our office at 4810 Melrose Ave. Iowa City, IA 52246. Please include the permit number with the payment to ensure the payment is tagged to the correct permit to continue the process.
Applications are reviewed in the order received, once payment is confirmed. Some applications require additional analysis and may require a longer turnaround period so please plan accordingly.
The fee schedule is as follows
Single Trip Permit – $35
Round Trip Permit – $70
Multiple Trip Permit – $200
Annual Oversized – $50
