Johnson County Attorney’s Office, University of Iowa Police Department confirm that attempted murder suspect Ali Younes has fled the country

The Johnson County Attorney's Office and University of Iowa Police Department (UIPD), in cooperation with federal law enforcement authorities, confirmed today that Ali Younes, the suspect who was awaiting trial for Attempted Murder, Robbery in the 1st degree, and Theft in the 1st degree, fled to the country of Jordan on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Younes used Jordanian travel documents to board a Royal Jordanian Airlines flight, departing from Chicago O'Hare International Airport. Younes was scheduled to go to trial for his charges on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in Johnson County District Court.

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors announces one vacancy on the Johnson County Civil Service Commission for a six-year term beginning upon appointment and expiring Aug. 15, 2029. Due to the current political make-up of the Commission, this appointee may identify with any political party or as “no party;” however, all applicants must disclose their political affiliation, so the Board of Supervisors can choose subsequent appointments which will maintain balance on the Commission, as mandated by Iowa Code 341A.2.
