Eleventh annual Johnson County Juneteenth Commemoration events celebrate food, culture and resilience

The 11th annual Johnson County Juneteenth Commemoration will take place from Tuesday, June 14 to Sunday, June 19, 2022. All events are open to the public and there is no fee to attend.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, 2 ½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers sailed into Galveston, Texas, and read aloud the order, freeing a quarter of a million slaves who were residing in the state.

COVID-19 Community Level Status Change

Due to factors that include reported cases and COVID-19 hospital admissions, the CDC has updated the COVID-19 Community Level Status to ‘High’ in Johnson County. The COVID-19 Community Levels helps communities and individuals make decisions based on their local context for COVID-19.

Johnson County in need of Republican poll workers for June 7th Primary Election

In preparation for the Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, June 7th, the Johnson County Auditor’s Office has been actively recruiting Precinct Election Officials (PEOs, more commonly known as poll workers) to staff the county’s 64 precincts on Election Day. Due to the unique demographics of Johnson County, it has been especially difficult to find enough Republican PEOs.
